The inspiration for Sage Advice started on the island of Corsica where I first tasted Mirto Liqueur. It’s a traditional drink infused with Myrtle berries, which grow wild across the rugged hillsides.

When I came back to the Okanagan I realized that we have wonderfully aromatic wild sage growing in the local hills. I first tried infusing the sage in sherry, which produced a very aromatic drink with a fruit-like sweetness.

Shortly after, I happened to read “Raw Spirit: In Search of the Perfect Dram” by the Scottish author Iain Banks. In his book, Banks described how wild herbs were used to make the whiskey liqueur Drambuie. This inspired me to start experimenting with sage and honey in a whiskey base, while slowly adding a mix of botanicals to add complexity.

After four years of experiments and many tastings with friends and family, an initial run of 164 bottles was completed!
